One of the most asked questions I get is ‘how can I get my makeup to last?’ and unfortunately it’s not a straight forward answer (don’t worry I plan to cover this in an upcoming blog post!). The chances are, makeup most of the time, will need touching up throughout wear if you want it to stay looking fresh and ‘just applied’. I thought it might be helpful if I shared a few ways I like to quickly touch up makeup for on the go, so you can stay looking fresher for longer!

An oldie but golden! Blotting papers are a great way to absorb excess oils that you may find peeking through, particularly in the T-zone area of the face. Taking a sheet and using one side, gently press onto the areas you want to knock back shine. I find this a great option for those that don’t want to apply extra powder and it wont move your makeup around. When working as a freelance makeup artist I will always send clients away with a couple of these in a touch up bag. These ones linked below by Muji are my favourite affordable option.
Another option to knock back shine would be this Nudestix Blot & Blur Stick. You apply it directly over makeup in the areas the natural oils come through the skin, like the centre of the face. It also gives a blurred appearance to the skin and would recommend it for those with enlarged pores. The only thing I would say is use a very light hand and try not to swipe too hard to avoid moving your makeup underneath, I find it works best with little makeup on.

For drier skin types it is common to find that makeup can start to look dry throughout wear, most noticeably underneath the eyes and around the nose area. This serum stick by Tatcha is a recent discovery of mine that is a great addition to your handbag for on the go touch ups. It can be applied over makeup wherever you find gets dry, or to the high points of the face such as cheekbones as a quick refresh to bring some glow back to the skin. If applied to the under eyes it creates a hydrating base for your concealer and powder to be reapplied to if you wish.
I would recommend anyone to own a hydrating mist as part of your makeup bag. They are great for many reasons and I like to use them throughout my routine, pre makeup, after powders, after makeup, or in this case to refresh!
This goes for any skin type, one of my favourite ways to revive makeup is to mist with your favourite hydrating spray. Not to be confused with setting spray, you want it to be hydrating as it is going to essentially melt together the makeup already on your face whilst adding some glow. This way it cheats the look of freshly applied makeup and if you want to go ahead and reapply some more, it allows for movement and creates a hydrating layer for it to be applied to. I’ll leave a few of my favourite multipurpose sprays linked below!
