Summer is a time to bring out the colour! If you generally like to play it safe with your makeup but are looking to switch it up for summer and introduce some colour into your makeup wardrobe, here are 4 of my favourite easy yet impactful ways to do so!

1. Colourful Eyeliner

Try switching out your black or brown eyeliner for a coloured option. It’s a great way to introduce some subtle colour into your makeup and make the eyes pop. To create the look below I used the Victoria Beckham Satin Kajal Liner, which are known for their highly pigmented, creamy and waterproof formula that lasts all day.

I chose the shade Sour Apple which is one of 3 of their new summer shades to compliment my brown eyes. Keeping the rest of the makeup paired back and fresh really allows the liner to pop and gives an editorial feel with wearability.

If you find that primary colours are too bold of an option, opt for jewel or earthy tones like an emerald or burgundy, so it’s a subtle change but can make a big difference.

2. Bold Blusher

Blusher has been a big trend in the makeup world especially in recent years. Remember the time when we would skip the blusher step in our routine?! It pains me to think about it. Along with concealer and brow gel, blush is one of the very few products I can’t go a day without using!

If eye makeup isn’t your thing, an easy yet impactful way to bring some colour into your makeup is through your choice in blusher. Placement is key here, a technique I love to use with brighter colours is blush draping. Originally taking off in the 70’s and 80’s, and as seen in the image below this is where the blush is applied along the cheekbones and up into the temples, often blended into the eyes to frame them. This gives a softer, flushed, natural look and you can use either cream or powder blush with this technique.

I went for a brighter shade in a cream formula by Nudestix. To really make a statement you can use more than one shade and blend together to add depth, or pair with a contrasting colour on the eyes or lips.

3. Coloured Mascara

Have you ever tried swapping your black mascara for a coloured one instead? I think our lashes often get forgotten about when it comes to experimenting with makeup. I love the editorial feel of a coloured statement lash and it’s so fun!

YSL Beauty have just launched their Lash Clash Mascara (one of my most used in my collection) in a vibrant blue shade as shown in the image below. If you don’t feel confident applying eyeliner but want a pop of colour on the eyes without the effort needed to apply eyeshadow, a coloured mascara can have the same effect and is very easy to apply. I find keeping the rest of your makeup paired back, fresh and natural, really allows for your eyes to be the star of the show.

4. Colourful Lip

It wouldn’t be summer without a colourful lip! There are plenty of ways you can wear a colourful lip, whether that is blotted on for a softer flush of colour or going for a fuller opaque look. There is an array of shades and finishes available on the market to suit your preferences.

If you hadn’t noticed already, I love a bold lip… so there are plenty of videos on my Instagram demonstrating different ways you can apply or wear one! I opted for a full crisp bold lip in the image below using the Rouge Hermes 70 Rose Indien lipstick to really let the lips be focus. Keeping the rest minimal really gives a high fashion appearance and feels effortless.
